Colette & Justin

We started visiting the North Shore during canoe trips when we were teenagers. We feel really lucky to be living in our favorite place, and we're excited to share our enthusiasm for it with our guests.

Many of our guests are drawn to the same things that attracted us here: unique and varied scenery, great fishing and hiking, terrific North Shore dining, and the sound of rolling waves putting you to sleep after a big day.

“Justin and Colette are great hosts and clearly experienced in making their guests comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer! We look forward to returning soon.” — Alison, Minneapolis · July 2026, The Harbor Home

Explore Grand Marais like you live here

We do live here — ask us anything. A few favorites to start.

Artist's Point & the Harbor

The walk everyone remembers: out past the lighthouse, over the rocks, Superior on all sides. Steps from the Harbor Home and Gray Duck.

North House Folk School

Timber framing, bread baking, boat building. Check the class calendar before you book — it's worth planning a trip around.

Winter, Done Right

The best sledding hill in the area, a skating rink with dollar skate rentals, snowshoe hikes to frozen waterfalls, and sauna nights. Winter rates run far below peak season.

Rivers & the Boundary Waters

The Fall River runs right past two of our cabins, and the Gunflint Trail into the BWCA starts in town. Bring the fishing rod.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Which cabin is right for a big group?
Gray Duck — our newest stay sleeps 12 across 4 bedrooms and 8 beds, has 2 baths and a sauna, and sits right by the Grand Marais harbor. Everything else in the collection is built for 2-5 guests.
Which cabins have saunas?
Five of the eight: River Run, The Ferny Fern, Gingerbread, House of the Grouse, and Gray Duck. The Ferny Fern and House of the Grouse pair theirs with off-grid shower houses — sauna purists, start there.
Can we walk to downtown Grand Marais?
From The Harbor Home and Gray Duck, yes — both are steps from the harbor, restaurants, shops, and the Folk School. The other cabins trade walkability for woods, rivers, and quiet, all within a few miles of town.
What's an off-grid stay actually like?
The Ferny Fern and House of the Grouse are intentionally unplugged: wood-fired saunas, off-grid shower houses, the Fall River outside the door. Guests consistently call it the point of the trip, not a compromise — but check the listing details so you know what you're signing up for.
How do we book?
Every "Check Availability" button opens that cabin's live calendar — pick your dates and book instantly. Have a question first? Message us through the listing; we live in Grand Marais and answer fast.
Is winter worth it?
Emphatically yes. Skiing, sledding, skating, snowshoe hikes to frozen waterfalls, and sauna nights — at rates that can run near half of peak season. Grand Marais in winter is the local-favorite season.
